FAQ
What is an art café and how does it work?
Curious Folk is an “art cafe” where you order an art or craft activity—like clay or gouache painting—from a menu. Unlike a class, it is lightly guided, with accessible instructions accompanying each kit. There is also a friendly instructor (and founder, me!) to get you started and help any time you need. We want to support you creating at your own pace in our cozy studio setting.
Where is Curious Folk located in Glasgow?
We are currently located in a private residence in the heart of Glasgow's West End, near the Glasgow Botanic Gardens, Great Western Road, and the University of Glasgow. The nearest subway is Hillhead, a 10 minute walk.
Do I need to be "good" at art to visit?
Not at all. Our arts and crafts activities are chosen for their low-stakes, therapeutic qualities—perfect for beginners or anyone needing a digital detox. Our kit-based model allows us to supply professional artist quality materials at an accessible price, so you don’t have to worry about the cost of starting a new hobby. We also take care of all the clean up!
What art activities (mediums) can I choose from?
Our seasonal menu includes graphite and charcoal drawing, gouache painting, collage, hand-sewing, applique, embroidery, weaving and more. Sign up for our mailing list to hear about menu additions and special workshop sessions.
How much does a session cost?
Our "main dish" art sessions are £28, which includes use of your chosen art kit, a two-hour table reservation, and a premium tea, coffee or soft drink. Extending the reservation or returning to work on something you’ve started is £10 per hour.
Is Curious Folk suitable for solo visits?
Yes! We are designed as a "third space" — a social compliment to the office/home grind where individuals can engage in creative play in a vibrant yet calm atmosphere.
Can I book for a small group or a birthday?
Yes! We host a maximum of 10 guests to maintain an intimate, cozy environment. For private group bookings, please contact us directly.
Is there an age limit for guests?
Currently, we’re focused on activities for adults. Children 10+ years of age can attend with an adult guardian. We’re planning to roll out a kids version in a few months. If you would like to be notified when it launches, please join our mailing list.
Is your studio accessible?
Sadly, we are on the first floor in a tenement building without an elevator. We hope that as we grow and move into a bigger space later this year, we will be able to vastly improve our physical accessibility. If you have other accessibility requirements, please get in touch with us.
